Except maybe having a nice patio cover so that you can still barbecue and keep your stuff out of the snow during the cold Utah winters. Decks and Patio Covers are great addition to any home. They can be as big or as small as you'd like. Not only do they look great, they are also an inviting part of your home for having friends over.

Mold Remediation

Molds are microscopic fungi, which are neither plants or animals. In nature, molds use enzymes to eat dead plants and animals. If there is a moist environment and other proper conditions, molds can attack materials in a house or building such as fiberboard, drywall, carpet backing, paper, dust, wood, or exposed soils in crawlspaces. Once established in a building, molds/fungi can spread, destroying structural wood components, and can be hard to get rid of. It can also be hazardous and even fatal.

Yes. Molds use tiny spores to reproduce. Spores that become airborne are hard to filter out and can stay suspended in the air for long periods of time. Some species also produce myotoxins, which are hazardous. Molds attack the respiratory system and symptoms include coughing, headaches, runny-nose, sinus problems, and can also include skin rashes, nausea, and diarrhea. Mold is most dangerous to the elderly, children, and people with weak immune systems but can affect anyone, including pets. Unfortunately, people often don't notice mold or don't do anything about it until after it has already begun spreading and making them sick.

Mold is often hard to detect. For mold to grow, it needs moisture and a food source. The following are conditions where indoor mold growth can occur:

  • Flooding without proper cleanup
  • Rainfall through leaky roofs
  • Plumbing or waterline leaks
  • Persistent elevated relative humidity above 60%

If you can see visible mold growth or smell musty odors, then you probably have mold growing in your home. The only way to be completely sure is by having a professional like DRL Enterprises run air samples to test for mold spores.

There are many different species of mold and each has unique characterstics. Mold can be black, brown, grey, white, orange, green, and even pink. It can look fuzzy, powdery, wet or dry, spotted, etc. A trained professional will better be able to identify mold and distinguish between the different species.

A Mold Remediation Specialist will be able to remove the mold source until spores are down to a safe level. Often, that process requires removing carpet, flooring, drywall, cabinets, or anything else that is obstructing access. Then, the mold is killed, cleaned, and spores are encapsulated so that they are no longer able to spread. Air samples are taken in order to ensure that the mold was removed effectively.
